The check-in habits of passengers passing through Noi Bai International Airport are undergoing a clear shift, moving from traditional procedures to automated ones...

A new way of getting around

In the early days of operation, the automated biometric kiosk areas only recorded a handful of passengers trying them out at the invitation and guidance of staff. However, after a period of operation and hands-on promotion, the outstanding convenience of the "3-touch" process (scan boarding pass / scan chip-embedded ID card / facial recognition) quickly attracted the public.

To date, in addition to the staff on standby for guidance, more and more passengers are proactively approaching the kiosks and quickly operating them on their own as soon as they arrive at the airport. According to statistics, the system successfully serves between 3,000 and 4,000 passenger check-ins at the kiosks each day, leading to between 8,000 and 10,000 passengers passing through the Autogate automated security screening lanes and boarding gates without having to wait in line.

Additional kiosks at Lobby E, extended support through the end of August

To meet the rising travel demand during the summer peak season, Noi Bai International Airport has completed the installation and put into use 4 additional new biometric kiosks at Lobby E (Terminal T1). As a result, the entire terminal now has 12 automated check-in kiosks ready for passengers, located at convenient positions (Lobbies A, B, and E).

Alongside the increase in infrastructure, human support on the ground continues to be strengthened. The coordinated support team – including the "Here to Help" passenger assistance staff, the airport's Youth Union, and staff from the Noi Bai Terminal Operations Center – continues to implement the plan to stand by and assist passengers through the end of August 2026. Thanks to this support team, elderly passengers and those less familiar with technology can feel completely at ease and no longer find the new process unfamiliar.

Recommendations for passengers to check in quickly and through the correct channel

The biometric kiosk system truly brings passengers many new and convenient experiences. However, Noi Bai International Airport notes that the system is not currently applicable to the following 3 groups of passengers:

  1. Passengers holding foreign nationality.
  2. Passengers who do not carry a chip-embedded ID card (using only a VNeID account on their phone).
  3. Passengers traveling in a group/family with children under 16 years old.

For the above groups of passengers, the airport recommends going directly to the traditional check-in counters and security screening lanes to be assisted by staff as quickly as possible. For passengers aged 16 and above who possess a chip-embedded ID card, the airport encourages them to proactively try the biometric check-in service at Lobbies A, B, and E for a smooth flight and to save time.
