INFRASTRUCTURE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES/LIMITED MOBILITY AT DOMESTIC PASSENGER TERMINAL (T1) - NOI BAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

As the largest international airport in northern Vietnam and a crucial gateway for international air trade in the capital city of Hanoi, Noi Bai International Airport focuses on investing in infrastructure and equipment to ensure the safety of all flights and passengers traveling through the airport. Among them, infrastructure and equipment for people with disabilities and limited mobility are always prioritized, ensuring synchronized accessibility such as accessible restrooms, wheelchair-accessible routes, escalators, elevators for vertical movement, LED signs, directional signs, videos, and audio systems providing information and safety instructions for visually impaired and hearing-impaired individuals.

At Passenger Terminal 1, disabled or mobility-impaired passengers can conveniently access aviation services and procedures. The infrastructure and equipment designed for prioritized guests can be summarized as follows:

1. For departing passengers:

1.1. Priority entrance: At Zone C – Domestic Passenger Terminal (T1), there are two designated priority entrances for priority passengers to proceed with procedures at Wings A and B, leading to the restricted area. Additionally, there is one priority entrance at Hall E.

Priority entrance at Zone C of Terminal 1 is used for staff as well as to facilitate the priority passengers when there is a high volume of passengers.

1.2. Restroom area (WC):

WC area at all locations is equipped with separate restrooms for people with disabilities/limited mobility, including fully equipped facilities at easily observable positions, convenient for wheelchair users. The restrooms for people with disabilities/limited mobility are equipped with emergency call buttons in case assistance is needed.

1.3. Seating in the waiting area:

In the restricted area of T1, there are rows of seats for people with disabilities/limited mobility in front of gates to create convenient conditions for passengers to easily board the aircraft.

 

The chairs are clearly marked with signage.

 

Passengers has always been advised to not to use the chairs designated for passengers with disabilities/limited mobility.

1.4. Free amenities: Free water drinking area and free charging stations are arranged at various heights, suitable for wheelchair users to easily access.

  The free water dispenser is available in two different heights.

2. For arriving passengers:

2.1. Waiting area seating: At the baggage claim area for domestic arrivals as well as the public area for domestic arrivals, Noi Bai International Airport provides arranged seating rows for passengers to rest while waiting.

 2.2. Traffic lanes: At the traffic lanes, Noi Bai International Airport has designed intersecting areas with suitable slopes for passengers who use wheelchairs to conveniently move to vehicles.

2.3. Parking spaces for vehicles picking up passengers using wheelchairs:

Despite limited space, in order to ensure service quality, Noi Bai International Airport is arranging designated parking spaces for vehicles picking up passengers using wheelchairs at Passenger Terminal 1, expected to be completed before January 1, 2024.

At Passenger Terminal 2, there are 12 parking spaces allocated at the P3 car park and 2 pickup spots at the front hall of the ground floor for vehicles picking up passengers using wheelchairs.

2.4. Transportation connecting the two terminals T1 - T2:

To facilitate passenger movement between the two terminals, Noi Bai International Airport has arranged two free electric shuttle bus routes. These shuttle buses are equipped with designated seating for passengers with disabilities/limited mobility, and especially feature ramps to allow wheelchair users to easily board and disembark from the bus.

2.5. Video and audio systems are in place to provide travel information and safety instructions for passengers with visual and hearing impairments.

To assist visually impaired and hearing impaired passengers, Noi Bai International Airport has installed instructional videos in sign language at the gates as well as on shuttle buses.

Despite the limited ground conditions at the domestic passenger terminal, Noi Bai International Airport makes efforts to ensure comprehensive access to services and infrastructure for all passengers to and from the airport.
