On March 22, 2025, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, Noi Bai International Airport will participate in the Earth Hour 2025 campaign under the theme “Green Transition, Green Future,” joining millions of people worldwide in reducing energy consumption and spreading the message of environmental protection.
This year, in addition to key agencies and units operating at Noi Bai International Airport—such as Noi Bai International Airport Authority, Immigration Police, Customs Sub-Department, Northern Airports Authority, ground service providers, and commercial businesses at the passenger terminals—the Earth Hour campaign also receives support from Hanoi Urban Lighting and Equipment One Member Limited Liability Company, the unit responsible for managing and operating the lighting systems along Vo Nguyen Giap and Vo Van Kiet roads passing through the airport. This expanded participation reflects the involvement of various departments, contributing to amplifying the campaign’s message of protecting the planet and creating a positive impression among both domestic and international passengers traveling through the gateway airport of Hanoi’s capital.
Power Reduction Plan at Noi Bai International Airport

As part of the Earth Hour 2025 campaign, Noi Bai International Airport will implement various measures to reduce electricity consumption across key areas without affecting flight operations or the quality of passenger services. Specifically:
-
Lighting will be switched off in office areas, waiting lounges, and corridors at Terminals T1 and T2, while maintaining adequate illumination in essential passenger service areas.
-
All advertising billboards inside and outside the terminals will be turned off, except for necessary directional signage for passengers.
-
Air conditioning systems at Terminals T1 and T2 will be turned off or temperature-adjusted to save energy during the event.
-
Lighting systems and non-essential equipment at substations, communication stations, workshops, and other operational areas will be scaled down to optimize power usage throughout the Earth Hour observance.
It is estimated that during the one-hour participation in Earth Hour, Noi Bai International Airport alone will save over 4,800 kWh of electricity.
Noi Bai International Airport calls upon all staff members and the wider community to join the action by turning off lights from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on March 22, 2025. This is an opportunity for everyone to show their commitment to environmental protection and contribute to positive changes for our planet.
Notice to Passengers during Earth Hour

The Earth Hour 2025 activities will not affect flight operations at Noi Bai International Airport. However, during the event, there may be minor inconveniences due to reduced lighting and the switching off of certain lights. We kindly ask for your understanding and support as we join hands in this environmental protection initiative.
Energy-Saving Efforts at Noi Bai International Airport

As a key national energy-consuming facility, Noi Bai International Airport has been actively implementing a range of technological and technical solutions, along with new investment initiatives, aimed at reducing electricity consumption in its operations. These efforts not only help minimize operating costs but also demonstrate the airport’s commitment to protecting the country’s energy resources.
In 2024, Noi Bai International Airport applied various technical measures in the operation and management of equipment to ensure flight safety and quality passenger services while reducing electricity usage. The results were impressive: a total of 614,466 kWh of electricity was saved, equivalent to approximately VND 1.8 billion.
Some notable initiatives include:
-
Replacing energy-intensive fluorescent and compact lamps with energy-efficient LED lights in key areas such as Terminals T1, T2, and airside zones;
-
Optimizing operational procedures: Baggage conveyor systems and air conditioning units are programmed to streamline operating hours, reducing unnecessary energy consumption. The software upgrade of the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system alone resulted in annual savings of 104,768 kWh;
-
Enhancing the cooling system: Repairs to the Chiller water-cooling system at the terminals helped save an additional 54,043 kWh annually;
-
Applying automated control technologies: Light sensors and timer switches have been installed to adjust public lighting, advertising boards, and outdoor decorations according to specific time slots and seasonal changes.
Noi Bai International Airport remains committed to further advancing energy-saving solutions, exploring renewable energy applications, and continuously improving operational technologies to minimize environmental impacts. With these proactive steps, Noi Bai not only ensures efficient airport operations but also contributes to building an eco-friendly aviation industry, fostering a greener and more sustainable future.
