On the morning of May 14th, Noi Bai International Airport conducted a fire-fighting and aircraft rescue drill in an area with complex terrain, with the participation of nearly 100 people.

This is the first time that Noi Bai International Airport has organized a drill for fire-fighting and aircraft rescue in an area with complex terrain, mobilizing multiple forces and resources from within the airport's jurisdiction.

The participation in the 2024 drill included nearly 100 individuals, 13 vehicles, and equipment from various units under Noi Bai International Airport, with the key involvement of the Airport Operations Center. Other participating units included the Northern Airports Authority, the Noi Bai Air Traffic Control Center, coordinating units, and the local authorities of neighboring areas adjacent to Noi Bai International Airport.

In the assumed scenario at the water body near the eastern end of Noi Bai International Airport, an A321 aircraft operated by airline X on the SGN-HAN route requested urgent assistance for an emergency landing due to an engine fire, with one engine already shut down. Due to uneven thrust, during the descent, the aircraft veered off the designated landing path and ended up in distress at the water body located southeast of the airport's runway.

Upon receiving the information, the emergency rescue command staff promptly deployed according to the plan and reported to the higher-level authorities following the established procedures and the Air Traffic Control Center. The forces were mobilized and deployed for firefighting and aircraft rescue at the distressed location.

Speaking at the drill, Mr. Pham Tuan Anh, Deputy Director of Noi Bai International Airport and Head of the Exercise Command, emphasized the utmost importance of firefighting and aircraft rescue operations. The forces must always be proactive, prepared, and coordinate seamlessly. He also commended the participating units for their preparation, planning, and serious and safe participation in the training and drill, ensuring the set requirements and objectives.

The drill has contributed to enhancing the sense of responsibility and readiness of the operating forces at the airport in carrying out emergency response and search and rescue missions. It has also improved the command, coordination, and cooperation capabilities of the leadership at various levels in handling airport emergencies, incidents, and crises, as well as search and rescue operations in complex terrain. Additionally, it has provided training in operating the available vehicles and equipment for the forces within the airport's jurisdiction.
