In 2024, Noi Bai International Airport applied numerous technical measures in its operations and equipment management to ensure flight operations and passenger services while reducing electricity consumption. The results have been impressive: 614,466 kWh of electricity was saved, equivalent to approximately 1.8 billion VND.

Some notable solutions include:

• Replacing the lighting system: Thousands of fluorescent and compact lamps that consumed a lot of electricity have been replaced with energy-saving LED lights in areas such as Terminal T1, Terminal T2, and the airside area. Specifically, upgrading the LED lighting system in Terminal T2 helped save 326,469 kWh per year.

• Adjusting operational procedures: The baggage conveyor systems and air conditioning systems have been programmed to optimize operating time, limiting unnecessary energy consumption. Updating the software for the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) has helped save 104,768 kWh per year.

• Improving the cooling system: Repairing the Chiller water cooling system in the terminal has helped save 54,043 kWh per year.

• Applying automatic control technology: Light sensors and timer switches have been installed to adjust the public lighting, advertising, and outdoor decorations systems according to specific times of day and seasons throughout the year.

Electricity-Saving Habits Within the Organization

In addition to technical improvements, Noi Bai International Airport has also cultivated a culture of electricity conservation among all staff members. Specific measures implemented in office settings include:

• Limiting the use of high-power electrical devices during peak hours.
• Turning off unnecessary equipment after working hours.
• Taking advantage of natural light and ventilation, minimizing the use of air conditioning when not truly necessary.
• Maintaining the air conditioning temperature at 26°C or higher, and turning off the air conditioning 30 minutes before the end of the working day.

Responding to Earth Hour 2024

Building on its ongoing efforts to save electricity, Noi Bai International Airport actively participates in the Earth Hour program every March. On March 22, 2025, Noi Bai International Airport will once again turn off the lights and reduce electricity usage during Earth Hour from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
