Noi Bai International Airport has implemented a range of synchronized solutions to enhance operational efficiency and improve passenger service quality, especially under the condition of surging traffic volumes during the summer peak of 2025.

1. Strong growth in traffic volume during Summer 2025 peak season

In the first half of 2025, Noi Bai International Airport served 16.5 million passengers, with over 100,000 takeoffs and landings. Notably, the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route, with Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat as its terminals, has consistently ranked among the 10 busiest domestic routes in the world, creating exceptionally high operational frequency and service pressure.

Additionally, Terminal T2 served over 7 million international passengers in the first six months alone—surpassing its current designed capacity of 10 million passengers per year, while expansion is underway to increase it to 15 million passengers annually.

Despite the high operational pressure, the on-time performance (OTP) rate over the past year (from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025) remained at 74%. Delayed flights were primarily due to airline operational issues (93.8%), weather conditions (1.8%), airport equipment/services (0.8%), air traffic control (2.5%), and other causes (1.1%). Noi Bai International Airport recognizes the need to improve this indicator and is actively working with airlines and ground service units to implement synchronized solutions to raise OTP rates in the near future.

2. Noi Bai International Airport strengthens multiple initiatives:

Optimizing flight operations through technology:
Since February 1, 2024, Noi Bai International Airport has officially implemented Phase 1 of the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) model. Relevant airport units now proactively collaborate in decision-making, share information, and effectively use flight data to ensure flights adhere to the A-CDM process. In the first half of the year alone, 100,002 flights were managed through this system, enabling more efficient use of runways and aprons, reducing ground waiting times, and contributing to improved flight punctuality.

Enhancing air traffic flow management:
The airport continues to closely coordinate with the Air Traffic Flow Management Center (ATFMC), airlines, and ground service providers to implement Level 3 Multi-Nodal Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) operations in Vietnam. This improves airlines' proactiveness in flight scheduling and minimizes airborne holding due to adverse conditions such as weather, military activity, or major economic and political events.

Accelerating infrastructure upgrade projects:
The T2 Terminal expansion project is being rapidly executed in a rolling manner—construction and operations taking place simultaneously. Once completed (expected by the end of 2025), it will fundamentally address overloading issues, provide more spacious facilities, and increase passenger service capacity.

Tightening service management and quality control:
Noi Bai Airport is conducting a comprehensive review of all concessionaire operations, requiring compliance with quality standards, price listing, and customer service attitude. Violations will be strictly handled under contract. The airport continues to invest in technology to enhance passenger convenience, including biometric check-in via VNeID, self-service kiosk check-in, and the ACV iCute online check-in platform, thereby improving the passenger experience.

Ensuring absolute aviation security and safety:
Security and safety remain top priorities. In the first half of the year, this effort received a “Good” rating from eight international airlines and from Australia’s aviation security authority during their inspection visit.

Noi Bai International Airport remains open to constructive feedback from passengers and the public. The airport is committed to continuous improvement and close collaboration with aviation stakeholders to bring about positive changes in the near future, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the passenger experience.

These comprehensive efforts have been deservedly recognized. In 2025, Noi Bai International Airport was honored by the prestigious global aviation ranking organization Skytrax, placing 79th among the Top 100 Best Airports in the World—an improvement of 17 ranks compared to the previous year.

As the largest airport in Northern Vietnam, Noi Bai International Airport serves as a vital gateway for economic, cultural, and tourism exchange for the capital Hanoi and the country as a whole. The airport continues to strive for sustainable development, with safety and passenger satisfaction at the heart of all its operations, and remains dedicated to the continuous improvement of service quality.
