Starting from 19 December 2025, in conjunction with the inauguration of the T2 Passenger Terminal Expansion Project, Noi Bai International Airport will progressively roll out the “Smart Airport” model.

For the first time, international passengers will be able to experience an almost fully automated end-to-end process in the expanded terminal area, significantly reducing waiting times. (Note: In the existing terminal halls, traditional service processes will continue to be maintained to ensure flexibility for all passenger groups.)

The journey into the “new look” of T2 begins the moment passengers enter the check-in area. At the terminal entrances, passengers are supported by smart information kiosks equipped with multifunctional screens. Featuring touch-screen technology, these devices allow passengers to quickly look up flight information, locate check-in counters, explore terminal maps, and find restaurants and amenities with just a few simple taps.

Upon entering the check-in area, instead of queuing at traditional counters, passengers can proceed directly to one of the 24 self check-in kiosks (located at islands A/B and K/L) to select seats and print boarding passes. Immediately afterward, the system of 24 Self Bag Drop counters enables passengers to weigh, print, and attach baggage tags within seconds. The entire process is swift and seamless, allowing passengers full control of their time without reliance on service staff.

In addition, at traditional check-in counters, Noi Bai International Airport has installed biometric identification systems for Vietnamese passengers holding chip-embedded passports. The combination of chip-passport readers and facial recognition devices connects passenger information to the database, enabling faster and more accurate processing while enhancing the overall passenger experience.

Entering the security control area, passengers will clearly feel the transformation brought about by an integrated technology-driven process. At the first access point to the restricted area (Veripax 1), biometric facial recognition autogates automatically match data and open within just 1–3 seconds, completely replacing manual checks. Passengers then proceed through the automated immigration control gates (Autogate) and complete a second facial verification (Veripax 2) before entering the security screening area.

The pilot implementation of biometric facial recognition at the T2 Passenger Terminal marks a significant milestone, representing a major step forward in the comprehensive digital transformation of Noi Bai International Airport. This technology minimizes waiting times, creates a smooth, contactless end-to-end journey, and significantly enhances the passenger experience.

At the security screening area, next-generation equipment makes the process smoother and faster:

  • For baggage: The 920CT 3D computed tomography scanners provide multi-dimensional image analysis, enabling security staff to conduct thorough inspections without missing potentially dangerous items.

  • For passengers: Walk-through metal detectors combined with advanced body scanners offer superior processing speed. The system accurately detects both metallic and non-metallic objects concealed on the body, helping security personnel quickly identify areas requiring inspection. Notably, the images displayed are shown as a neutral “avatar,” ensuring maximum respect for personal privacy and providing passengers with a sense of comfort and reassurance during security checks.

With procedures completed swiftly, passengers have more time to relax and enjoy the comfortable departure lounge. A diverse range of dining and shopping options, along with thoughtful amenities such as baby changing rooms and children’s play areas, are interwoven with green, eco-friendly spaces—helping passengers recharge before departure.

With these continuously optimized processes, the expanded Noi Bai T2 Terminal delivers a smooth, safe, and civilized travel experience, approaching the standards of leading international airports in the region and affirming its role as the international aviation gateway of Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi.
