Starting from November 21, 2024, Noi Bai International Airport will begin the first trial phase of three exit lanes utilizing a cashless and contactless automatic toll collection system for entry, exit, and parking services at the Terminal T1 car parking area.
Starting November 21, 2024, Noi Bai International Airport will launch the first trial phase of its cashless and contactless automatic toll collection system for vehicles exiting the elevated roadway at Passenger Terminal T1 (excluding the car parking area). The system includes three designated exit lanes, numbered 208 to 210, which are open to all eligible vehicles.
All vehicles permitted to operate on public roads under Vietnamese law (excluding container trucks) are allowed to use these lanes. This includes toll-paying vehicles, priority vehicles exempt from fees, vehicles with monthly passes, and contracted transport business vehicles operating in partnership with Nội Bài International Airport.
The trial lanes offer flexible payment options, including contactless ETC (Electronic Toll Collection), cashless payments via bank cards, and cash payments for vehicles subject to service fees based on usage duration. Priority vehicles, monthly pass holders, and contracted transport vehicles will continue to be exempt from on-site payments.
Notably, vehicles with existing ETC accounts used on national highways and expressways can seamlessly access the airport’s toll lanes without the need for additional tags or procedures, as the system is fully integrated and synchronized.
Statistics show that nearly 15,000 vehicles pass through the toll gates at Noi Bai International Airport daily, paying with cash. Traditionally, toll collection at the airport has been handled manually, requiring drivers to stop at the entry gate to collect a ticket and pay in cash upon exiting. This process often leads to localized congestion, particularly during peak hours, holidays, and festive seasons.
The implementation of the cashless and contactless automatic toll collection system, led by Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), is being rolled out at five major international airports with high passenger volumes: Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Da Nang, Phu Bai, and Cat Bi. This project aims to facilitate faster vehicle movement, improve access to passenger terminals, and ensure traffic safety. It is also a key initiative within ACV's strategy to enhance technology adoption across airport operations, continually improving passenger service quality.
On the first day of the trial operation of the three lanes, over 11,000 vehicles successfully passed through the system. Noi Bai International Airport advises passengers to check the status of their ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) accounts to ensure seamless and quick transactions when using these lanes.
As of now, Phase 1 of the trial has been completed at the domestic Terminal T1 with three ETC lanes. Phase 2 is expected to roll out before the New Year holiday. According to the implementation roadmap, the remaining lanes at Terminal T1 and the international Terminal T2 will be completed and operational once all conditions are met, with updates to be provided accordingly.
